Lake Superior State Extends Damon Whitten’s Contract

Lake Superior State introduced a six-year contract extension for head coach Damon Whitten on Thursday, which can hold Whitten with the Lakers not less than by the 2027-2028 season.

Whitten is a wonderful recruiter and his groups play an up-tempo fashion which made the Lakers aggressive within the WCHA, regardless of the challenges they face as a smaller college in Michigan’s Higher Peninsula.

In 2018-2019, Lake State gained 23 video games, their most for the reason that finish of the college’s glory days after they gained 30 video games in Jeff Jackson’s ultimate season in Sault Ste Marie in 1996. Final season, Lake Superior State gained the WCHA playoff championship and certified for the NCAA Match, once more, the college’s first since Jackson’s ultimate 12 months in 1996.

Within the college’s press launch, Lake Superior State president Dr. Rodney S. Hanley mentioned:

“I’m excited to have Damon Whitten proceed as the top coach of our Laker hockey program. It is a well-deserved extension as Damon has led us again to nationwide prominence, and I’m assured that he’ll stay dedicated to Lake Superior State’s proud hockey custom, to not point out our student-athletes’ educational achievements. I’d wish to congratulate Damon and his household for this accomplishment, and look ahead to the upcoming seasons of Laker hockey!”
