New CCHA to award MacNaughton Cup to conference’s regular-season champion, starting in 2022

The CCHA introduced Tuesday that the annual CCHA regular-season champion will probably be awarded the celebrated MacNaughton Cup, which has beforehand been used for a similar function within the WCHA.

“We’re thrilled to award the MacNaughton Cup to the CCHA regular-season champions,” CCHA commissioner Don Lucia mentioned in an announcement. “The 40-pound handcrafted pure silver trophy has been awarded to a school hockey champion since 1951 and we stay up for retaining the custom alive within the CCHA. The search for essentially the most tradition-rich trophy in school hockey begins in October.”

“Michigan Tech is proud to be the trustee of essentially the most historic trophy in school hockey,” added Michigan Tech director of athletics Suzanne Sanregret. “We’re excited to carry the MacNaughton Cup again to the CCHA.
