twentieth Seed Olivia Carter Drops 200 IM At NCAAs (Day 2 Scratches)

Michigan junior Olivia Carter is the lone swimmer seeded inside the highest 24 to scratch out of Day 2 prelims on the 2021 Ladies’s NCAA Championships (that we didn’t beforehand find out about), dropping the 200 IM because the twentieth seed.

Carter was entered together with her time of 1:56.32 from final month’s Massive Ten Championships the place she completed third. That marked her second-fastest efficiency ever, having gone 1:55.78 on the 2019 SECs (Carter transferred from Georgia to Michigan in January 2020).

Carter did race on the Wolverines’ 800 free relay on Wednesday night time (changing Kathryn Ackerman from the Massive Ten lineup), splitting 1:45.44 on the third leg because the group completed tenth in 7:01.81.

Carter is entered to race the 100 fly on Day 3 (seeded eighth) and the 200 fly on Day 4 (seeded third). The 20-year-old gained the Massive Ten title within the 200 fly in February and positioned second within the 100 fly.

Additionally scratching from inside the highest 24 was Michigan senior Daria Pyshnenko, who introduced she was retiring after Massive Tens. Pyshnenko was ranked tenth with a time of 21.88.

Different notable scratches from the 200 IM got here from thirty third seed Coleen Gillilan of Notre Dame, 52nd seed Andrea Podmanikova of NC State, and 58th seed Ema Rajic of Cal.

USC’s Anicka Delgado (thirty seventh) has opted out of the 50 free, whereas prime 50 seeds Luciana Thomas and Emma Atkinson are out of the five hundred free.

NC State’s Sophie Hansson, one of many favorites in each the 100 and 200 breaststroke on Days 3 and 4, can also be out of the 50 free because the forty fifth seed. Rajic, Podmanikova and Hansson are all pure breaststrokers who will skip their “off” occasion and save up for the breast people and the medley relays.

Hoosier freshman Ella Ristic, the twenty second seed within the 500 free, stays on the warmth sheets regardless of lacking the 800 free relay resulting from being in concussion protocol. Indiana is hopeful Ristic will probably be cleared in time to race the five hundred.
