A part of the British Touring Automobile Championship institution and thrice a title winner, Northern Irishman Colin Turkington chats about his low-key begin in motor racing, the efforts to which he went to make his first racing automotive – a Metro – extra aerodynamically environment friendly and the surprising method during which a pastime put him on the trail to a profitable skilled profession.
He has secured all three of his BTCC championships with West Surrey Racing and BMW – and this season he seeks to emulate Andy Rouse, the one driver beforehand to have received 4. Turkington comes from a household with a powerful motor sport heritage – and the dynasty seems to be sure to proceed. When he’s not competing within the BTCC, Turkington can usually be discovered at kart tracks, overseeing the efforts of his two younger sons.
