Katherine Diaz Hernandez, a 22-year-old surfer who dreamt of competing on the Tokyo Olympics, was killed by a lightning strike at a seashore in El Salvador over the weekend.

Diaz was coming into the water at El Tunco, a seashore on the Pacific coast, round 5 pm when the lightning hit her.

Members of the general public rushed to her support earlier than an ambulance arrived and took her to hospital however she couldn’t be revived.
