Jack Charlton made his 600th look for Leeds United on today in 1972. The match was a slim 1-0 victory over Coventry Metropolis and to mark the event, he scored the one purpose of the sport!

Charlton was a towering centre half who at all times confirmed energy and bravado. Leeds United was his solely membership and he retired a 12 months later on the age of 38. In all, he performed 762 appearances for Leeds between 1952 and 1973, scoring a formidable 95 targets.

He’ll perpetually be remembered in English soccer as he was a part of the England facet that received the World Cup in 1966. Each he and his brother Bobby joined Gordon Banks, Ray Wilson, Nobby Stiles, Bobby Moore, Alan Ball, George Cohen, Roger Hunt, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters in lifting the Jules Rimet trophy.

In later years, Charlton took up administration and guided Republic of Eire to their first World Cup in 1990. They then efficiently certified for the next World Cup in America 4 years later.
