I Went for a Run and Did Not Die

In the present day I *went for a run, and I *didn’t die.

I *didn’t fear that I’d be blamed for a theft in my *protected neighborhood due to the *colour of my pores and skin, or the *manner I wore my garments.

I used to be *not involved {that a} truck would chase me down and threaten my life.

I *would not have to worry after I see a accomplice flag on a truck with a shotgun rack (though I believe it’s disgusting), I don’t worry for my life.

Once I was pulled over by the Mass State Patrol, I *didn’t fear a couple of unsuitable hand gesture, reaching for my registration, being blink judged as a weapon. (And I *bought out of the ticket.)

In the present day, I ran with *bougie headphones in my *costly trainers, *with out worrying that I’d be harmed.

And whereas after all I *might be harmed, I *felt protected. Understanding that even when I used to be assaulted, I’m *able-bodied and *might run or struggle.

And… if this theoretical struggle got here to me killing my assaulter, I *wouldn’t have doubt or judgments on me. It might *clearly be self-defense.

The *justice system would reply rapidly to the plight, and would want not anticipate a *neighborhood to rally, *have their voices heard, or *create fundraisers for justice.

There can be *little question that I acted in self-defense. No side-eyes, not doubts due to the colour of my pores and skin.

The media would make me a hero:
“*White lady, age 40, in a *quiet neighborhood in *Massachusetts was assaulted. *Heroically, she *fought and killed her assailant. She is a former *lawyer, *married to a *white *male *scientist, *mother of two *able-bodied, *wholesome youngsters, and is dedicated to *making our neighborhood safer.”

In the present day, I’m *a runner.
In the present day, I *didn’t die.

Each (*) marks a degree of privilege–simply earlier than 10am.

Time to talk out, inform the reality and be trustworthy about what is admittedly happening in our nation.

I stand with my black brothers and sisters (and cousins!), and am dedicated to being a white voice to what you’re already doing. I assist black activists and visionaries; I’m not recreating this second, taking credit score for this message. However I’m standing with them to struggle for an finish to this mindless, savage and tragic fact of our nation.
