The final weekend of the 2020 Beaches International Jazz Festival virtual edition begins on the night of Friday, July 24. In honour of what would have been the annual Street Fest on Queen Street East featuring musicians at every corner and tens of thousands of music fans filling the streets, this year’s festival will stream Street Fest Favourites starting at 7 p.m. tonight.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the City of Toronto to limit the gathering of large crowds to help stop the spread of the virus, this year’s 32nd annual jazz festival is taking place online until July 26. The virtual festival, which opened on July 17, features a variety of free streamed musical performances, lectures and discussions.

The 2019-20 NBA season came to a halt back in March when Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. It’s perhaps fitting, then, that it will be Gobert and the Utah Jazz who get the season back underway on Thursday night. They’ll be up against Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans in the first real game at the Disney World bubble.

So far, things have gone pretty much as well as could be expected. While there have been a few mishaps involving players breaking some quarantine rules, zero players have tested positive inside the bubble. If that trend holds, the NBA just might be able to pull off this operation.

Ahead of the first game of the rest of the season, here’s everything you need to know about Jazz vs. Pelicans.

This year’s festival wraps up on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, with the OLG Weekend Series.

Slated to perform this Saturday are Alex Pangman, The J&B Kings, Laila Biali, The Joy Lapps Project, Andy Kim, Wavey Abersold, and Sean Jones and the Righteous Echo.

Performers for Sunday are Diana Salvatore, After Funk, Loony, Marcus Anderson, Julian Taylor, The Soul Motivators, and JP Saxe.

Live streaming for both the Saturday and Sunday performances begin at 7 p.m.Utah Jazz will face the Brooklyn Nets in an NBA restart scrimmage on July 27, 5:30 PM EST (July 28, 3 AM IST). Before the league officially restarts on July 30, all teams at the bubble will compete for three inter-squad games over the period of seven days. Some games will be broadcast nationally by NBA TV, while 10-minute quarters will replace the usual 12-minute periods for the first and third scrimmages. The Miami Heat and Utah Jazz will face each other for their NBA restart scrimmage on Saturday, July 25, 4:00 PM EST (July 26, 1:30 AM IST). All 22 teams who reported to the Orlando bubble for the restart will compete in inter-squad exhibition games before the season resumes July 30. As this is both the team’s second scrimmage, the league will return to the usual 12-minute quarter format. The Miami Heat and Utah Jazz will be broadcast nationally live by NBA TV. Fans will be able to access NBA TV via the league’s official website or app, which can be downloaded on mobile phones and gaming consoles. Fubo.tv will also stream the game live.Obviously being white Australian it’s very different for me being here and listening to these guys talk about the issues and what their families have gone through and the conversations they’ve had with their children that I’m never going to have in my life. So sitting back and hearing that stuff it makes you want to be involved. It makes you want to play a part. So my teammates and NBA players know what I’m 100 per cent in.

“Whatever we do, whatever they decide to do, I’m 100 per cent in and I’ve got their back. So when we figure it out, it’ll be a majority decision of what everyone thinks is the best option and I’ll be right there with them.”

According to ESPN, the Jazz and Pelicans have discussed holding a joint protest where the teams will come together before the start of the game.

It was earlier reported NBA players will also consider wearing individual social justice shirts that would need to be approved by the league.

The Jazz announced earlier this week the entire team will be replacing the names on the back of their singlets with messages of support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
